I have been creative all of my life, but started drawing in 2004 as a hobby, until friends and family encouraged me to develop my skills and talent as an artist. I am inspired/moved and motivated by music. I have drawn over 30 portraits of musicians, and 18 of non-musicians, including my loved ones, and their loved ones.
I am deeply influenced by music, and how it can change a mood, inspire a thought, challenge an opinion, shake your hips and just make you feel so good. This year I have done a series of portraits of Hip Hop Legends, and I still have a handfull more to add to the list. It is truly a labor of love and respect. The musicians I chose to draw for the series have left a legacy for our younger generation, and they are indeed big shoes to fill. They have brought to the table fresh ideas, clever wordplay, and intoxicating sounds. They continue the battle of keeping good music alive, and new, while still maintaining their old school style, and staying true to themselves. They are much like teachers, and often like parents or older siblings in that respect. I feel like I owe them at least this much. Most of my work here is done in graphite/pencil, but I'm painting with oil and acrylic now. Watch out!
