  • Clown Demon Portrait

another small piece from an art series of mine called "Supernaturally Feminine". You can read all about them on my wordpress blog at wingedpiranha.wordpress.com. description on the character: She is the sarcastic, twisted spirit in everyone. Her job is to bring out the na...

  • Vanity Spirit Portrait

another small piece from an art series of mine called "Supernaturally Feminine". You can read all about them on my wordpress blog at wingedpiranha.wordpress.com. description on the character: A spirit that brings out the vain and pride in everyone. She can turn the most ...

  • VSA Disability Postcard Project

sending this small piece to the Disability Postcard Project group show hosted by VSA. the prompt was to interpret the term "disability". my two younger brothers have autism. even though they can't relate to people well, they're very fond of nature. they're always relaxed and e...

  • SICKle

an in-general painting practice with acrylics. my oils are trapped inside the school locker along with my colored acrylics. still, i think i've finally figured out how to treat paintings like a sketchbook. painting is fun!

  • Teardrops on My Guitar

a little twist on Taylor Swift's "Teardrops on My Guitar". sometimes i adore my sketchbook pieces more than my finished artwork.

  • Birthday

lolita complex birthday gift. figures are inspired by Egon Schiele's works. he is definitely one of my fave artists.

  • Children at War

a girl in Sierra Leone trying to deactivate a landmine on the battlefield with her kids. after doing a semester-long research on women and girls during the Sierra Leone "blood diamond" war, i can't un-see the terrible things i saw!

  • Mother

mainly a technique and style experiment. i was trying to pull an Alice Neel or a Clive Barker with the thick outlines, but i'm not liking to look too much. posted it for the heck of it.

  • Ejaculate

racial identity piece and mixed media experiment. yellow on the outside and white on the inside.

  • Screaming

mainly a color and technique experiment. my energy tend to show more in my sketchbook, so i tried treating my canvas like a sketchbook.

  • Luminosity Still Life

finally, after practicing with the palette knife, we move back to the brushes. this assignment was really rewarding.

  • Still Life with Turnip and Apple

palette knife color study. it was an assignment on luminosity through mixing color instead of smudging around paint with brushes.

  • Self in Warm Palette Knife

palette knife painting self-portrait in warm colors. i like the earthy red tone contrasted with the deep blue. optical blending is a funny thing.

  • Self in Cool Palette Knife

self-portrait done with a palette knife. palette knife painting made me realize how color-mixing can be very meditative and rewarding.

  • Autumn Still Life

my first ever big painting still life. we had to paint fast since the objects were starting to rot away. it was gross.

  • Cool Babies

this pieces is conceptually "cool" because it's not up-close, personal, and intuitive like the "warm" painting. it's more technical since the piece shows a chart not a peek inside the womb. i also went with the "paint by numbers" approach.

  • Warm Baby

this assignment was kind of tricky. we had to interpret "space" or "room". after going through various concepts, i decided my room would be inside of the womb. then we had to make a piece that was "warm" and "cool" conceptually. this piece is warm since it's up-close, personal...

  • Geometric Hue

another color assignment. this time, we had to use at least 50 geometric shapes. then, we chose a color and created various hues. as you can see, i chose orange. normally, i don't like drawing anything geometric (i.e. buildings), but this one too was pretty addicting.

  • Organic Light

an assignment from color class. we had to have at least 50 organic shapes and assign a certain value to the colors. i did light. this piece was addicting.

  • Sunrise, Sunset

kind of a Wayne Thiebaud-inspired color experiment.

  • Pee

mixed media experiment during freshmen year summer. first time life painting... yeah... not so great, but the process was fun.

  • Pencil Transformation

transformation of a compass. this drawing gave me an epiphany. our professor showed us the physics in lighting and did a step-by-step demonstration on how to shade. it was cool.

  • Jungle in Tariffville

the little woods we have in our neighborhood. looking closely, i really looked like a jungle. i usually hate landscapes, but this one was fun.

  • Teeth of Steel

another assignment from welding class. we had to make a body part. just about everyone did either the spine or the ribcage. the moment i heard "body part", i thought "teeth" and "jaws". i'm odd like that. teeth are fun to draw. i have to thank our wood shop technician for find...

  • New Generation Piper Card

inspired by Adrian Piper's "Calling Card" series. I honest didn't know what to categorize this piece under. technically, it's performance art (part of my performance piece, "Offering"); I attached these to Twinkies and served them to show visitors.

  • Fish Wagon

originally, we were suppose to make 1/4 of a car out of cardboard. i hate cars. i tried convincing my professor about making a full wagon instead. then she saw my random doodle of a fish with robot legs (Futurama ref) and told me, "If you can make a fish robot pulling a wagon,...

  • Tusk Mask

welding course again. this time, it has tusks! originally, the curled pieces were going to be ram horns, but then one of the professors walked in and beamed, "ARE THOSE TUSKS?" i'm glad she gave me that suggestion.

  • Pig Mask

welding class introductory assignment. we had to make a mask. instead making a typical face mask, i decided i wanted to make those nifty medieval torture masks. i'm pretty sure they were humiliating then, but i think they're wicked cool. i love masks.

  • Still Life with Mask and Two Mannequins

limited color palette of two wooden mannequins and a mask (the mask exists!). never thought three colors plus black and white could make one painting.

  • Thank You, Ensor!

i love drawing characters. i keep creating one after another, it's endless! my professor suggested looking up James Ensor. his busy compositions were very suitable for my characters and narratives. this piece is an imitation of "L'Intrigue".

  • Claire's 18th

it was my friend Claire's 18th. KA-POW! this piece was a lot of fun. who doesn't love mindless doodles and obnoxious colors?

  • Seated Norman

this animal is real! way back when in high school, our teacher wanted us to make a creature out of various objects we've collected. my friend had a rabbit plus that was torn apart by her dog. she used the head and i kept the butt. randomly, another friend of mine brings in a H...

  • Fail to Hide

our assignment was to make either a "loud" or "quiet" piece. i tried doing "muted", but obviously that didn't work out. mainly a mixed media experiment.
